Preparing for your Diagnostic Tests
What to Bring | Day of Appointment

if you fill out the questionnaire at home, it will save you time in the clinic.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time.
​
Bring your Ontario Health Care card and a piece of government-issued photo identification.
​
Bring a list of your current medications including any vitamins, herbal remedies, supplements, and over-the-counter drugs.  The list should include the name of the medication, the dose (amount taken) and how often you take each medication.
​
Please avoid any lotions, creams or perfumes on your chest area the day of your appointment.
​
If you require a translator, please bring one with you to your appointment.
​
Wear a comfortable top that is easy to remove as you may be asked to change into an exam gown during your appointment to have an electrocardiogram (ECG) performed.
Bring something to take notes during your appointment (e.g., instructions for any diagnostic tests you may be booked for, and any medication changes/new medications prescribed).
How to prepare for tests
Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram (or echo) uses ultrasound to create images of the heart. The sound waves show the function of your heart valves, the pumping action of your heart, and can detect any abnormalities.

Holter Monitor
A Holter monitor is a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) that shows how your heart reacts to activity throughout the day while performing normal daily activities.

Exercise Stress Test
An exercise stress test looks at your heart and its response to increased workloads (activity) or stress. This is done by walking on a treadmill at different speeds and incline levels.

Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (MPI)
This test shows how blood flows through the heart and if there are any blockages. There are two parts to this test – an exercise and a rest portion. Each part will take about between 1–1.5 hours to complete with a 3–4-hour break in between (approximately 5 to 6 hours in total).
